pnd Support

Supported by the mental health charity MIND, the film encourages open discussion around Postnatal Depression (PND) and aims to build awareness around the issue.

PND is believed to affect between 10-15% of all new mothers in the UK, making women feel low and experience difficulty bonding with their newborn baby.

Recent research undertaken by the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (RCOG) and supported by the Maternal Mental Health Alliance found that 81% of women surveyed experienced a least one episode of a mental health problem during or after their pregnancy.

Survey of 2,300 women who had given birth in the last five years in the UK, published 22 February 2017

The charity MIND comments: “We welcome the release of ‘Taketh’ – we know that when done well, dramatic portrayals of mental health problems can go a long way to help shape attitudes as well as encourage people to seek help. Films like this, on rarely talked about issues, help to educate on what it is actually like to be diagnosed with an illness like depression.”
